“RALLY FOR THE PEOPLE: MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER”
This action in Greenville, SC is affiliated with the People’s March in DC and is one of more than 250 events in cities nationwide
Greenville, SC – On January 18th, in Falls Park in the city of Greenville SC, a “RALLY FOR THE PEOPLE: MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER” will be held from 1 to 3 pm. The rally will feature different community speakers.
This is a positive gathering uniting people from different backgrounds and points of view in the common goal of supporting each other and our constitutional rights and freedoms. This effort is nonpartisan and multi-issue.
If you believe that decisions about your body should remain yours, that books belong in libraries; that healthcare, freedom from gun violence, free gender expression, gender equality, racial equality and whom and how you love are basic human rights for all; if you believe the power of free speech sustains democracy; and/or you want an economy that works for the people who power it—then this rally is for YOU!
Though we may each rally for different reasons, we all rally for the same root belief – defending our rights and our future TOGETHER.
This rally is being organized by the nonprofit group, We the People Greenville. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky for more information.

Center for Developmental Services
Dr. William “Bill” Schmidt, founder and Emeritus board member of the Center for Developmental Services (CDS), along with his wife, Jean, are challenging the community to support CDS. All gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000.
In the past 25 years, thousands of families in the Upstate have benefitted from the services that CDS and its partners provide. His vision became a reality in 2000 and has now impacted multiple generations.
“Dr. Schmidt has made an indelible mark on our community through his unwavering commitment to children with intellectual challenges and special medical needs,” said Executive Director of CDS, Dana McConnell. “We are grateful for his efforts and support.”
CDS invites the community to join the Schmidts with a gift or pledge from now through the end of February to support children in our community. For more information about CDS or to participate in this challenge, visit www.cdservices.org. Gifts may also be mailed to CDS, 29 N. Academy Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or given through Venmo @CDSkids.

CDS and its partners serve over 8,000 children and their families each year on property donated by the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville at 29 North Academy Street in Greenville, SC.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Stop me if you heard this one (and you haven’t). Two men walk into Heaven and hilarity ensues.
That’s the story behind “Waiting for You,” a new musical comedy created by two Upstate music and entertainment industry legends and premiering Friday, April 11, with a limited engagement at the Chapman Cultural Center.
“Waiting for You” is set in Heaven, where men are forbidden, but two show up and throw Paradise into pandemonium. Colorful characters in the nine-member cast include EGGS (Eternal Great Generating Spirit); Saints Mattie and Joanie; Dr. Jessie Christie; and Susie, who dies within minutes of the opening and is eager to enjoy her rewards in the Afterlife. She discovers Eternity isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
The musical is the
brainchild of John Jeter and David Berry.
Berry, a 37-year
composition professor at Converse University, wrote the music and co-wrote
lyrics. In addition, Berry toured for 13 years with Anthem, his rock band whose
members included Ralph and Marty, a beloved duo that performed for years around
Greenville. Jeter, who wrote the book and lyrics, is best known as co-owner of The Handlebar, the storied Greenville live-music venue that he
chronicled in his book, “Rockin’ A Hard Place.” He now teaches music business at Converse and
USC Upstate.
Kimilee Bryant, the
Upstate artist renowned for her leading roles on Broadway, is the featured
performer. Most notably, she starred as “Christine” in “The Phantom of the
Opera” — Broadway’s longest-running show — she is the only actor
to have played the two other major female roles. She also appeared in Phantom’s
U.S. Tour, in Toronto and Switzerland, and has performed in numerous
other New York City musical and operatic productions, among myriad marquee
accomplishments.
Tickets start at $25, plus facility fees. After the Friday premiere, the only other performances will be at 7 p.m. Saturday and a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m.
