Earth Fare Joins Forces with Flashfood to Reduce Food Waste
While Offering Shoppers Big Savings

ASHEVILLE, NC (August 7, 2024) – In its continued efforts to reduce food waste and make quality, healthy food more affordable to families, Earth Fare has partnered with Flashfood at select stores, including its Greenville location at 3620 Pelham Rd., beginning Wednesday, August 7. Earth Fare will be the first grocer in the region to partner with Flashfood as part of its Flashfood for Independents platform.
According to a study by Recycle Track Systems, grocery stores throw out about 30 percent of their product each year, and wasting food accounts for roughly 11 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. And as grocery prices continue to rise, more and more families struggle with access to healthy, affordable foods. Flashfood is an app that partners with grocery retailers to offer shoppers savings of up to 50 percent on produce, meat, dairy, and more. Shoppers receive push notifications when food is marked down, and can order and pay for their groceries right from the app, then pick up their order from the Flashfood coolers in the front of the store. Since its founding in 2016, Flashfood has diverted more than 100 million pounds of food from landfills, and has saved its shoppers $280 million on their groceries. The free app is available in the App Store and Google Play.
“Flashfood’s mission is to feed families, not landfills – by making fresh, nutritious food more affordable,” said Nicholas Bertram, CEO of Flashfood. “We’ve long admired Earth Fare as a beloved locally-minded grocer, and are honored to support their existing sustainability initiatives and build on their incredible community work. I can’t think of a more mission-aligned partner to introduce Flashfood to the Southeast.”
The program is also available to shoppers in Asheville, and will expand to Earth Fare’s four Charlotte-area locations in the coming weeks.
