Barbara Stone Foundation

The Barbara Stone Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting and creating visionary programs for individuals with disabilities, will host CAN Talks, a powerful event where six individuals with disabilities, living in the Upstate, will share their unique stories and insights to spark new conversations, challenge outdated stereotypes, and broaden perspectives.

CAN Talks will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 6:40 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., at Centre Stage, located at 501 River Street in downtown Greenville. The 2025 speakers are Andrew Angalet, Daniel Battle, Andy Lecture, Kathleen Stoller, Alex Wallace and Chrystal Washington. Jake Kellett and Betsy Knowles, two 2024 CAN Talks speakers, will be the 2025 emcees. CAN Talks coaches are Caroline Avinger, Dana Gantt Moore, John Moore, Dann Publicover and Leigh Whitaker.

“The Barbara Stone Foundation created CAN Talks so that individuals living with a disability could share the contributions they have made to our community despite the challenges and barriers they face every day,” said Lara Ceisel, executive director of the Barbara Stone Foundation. “The 2025 speakers have developed their speech from a place of vulnerability and share deeply personal information to broaden our community’s perspectives about disabilities, showcasing their self-advocacy skills.”

Admission is $30, and tickets can be purchased at www.GVLCANtalks.org. Virtual tickets are also available for $10. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a cocktail reception, and CAN Talks starts at 6:40 p.m. with Barbara Stone Foundation’s Fall Community Innovations Grants check presentation. A sign language interpreter will be available, and accommodations will be made for guests upon request. Seating for individuals using a wheelchair is limited to eight.

Salt Run Entertainment

Salt Run Entertainment, a new fully integrated production studio co-led by Charles Randolph-Wright and John Gramling III, announced its residency at Spartanburg Community College’s Spark Center, marking a milestone for South Carolina’s film and television industry.

The 25,000 sq. ft. Spark Center space will serve as Salt Run Entertainment’s headquarters and creative hub, with offices, a writers’ room, warehouse for set design, and a filming studio. The residency underscores Spartanburg’s emergence as a creative economy hub and the official launch of Salt Run Entertainment’s operations in the state.

Through its collaboration with SCC, Salt Run Entertainment will provide workshops, internships, and hands-on opportunities. “Innovation is the cornerstone of our mission,” said Dr. Michael Mikota, SCC President. “This partnership prepares students for tomorrow’s opportunities while positioning Spartanburg as a leader in the creative economy.”

Salt Run Entertainment has also partnered with the Urban League of the Upstate to expand workforce development initiatives. “Salt Run Entertainment’s presence represents more than a new business – it’s a chance to expand pipelines and ensure opportunities are open to all,” said Dr. Gail Wilson Awan, ULUS President & CEO.

Randolph-Wright, a York, SC native, said, “This is a homecoming. Phoenix Center

GREENVILLE, SC- The Rally for Recovery is a free, family friendly event that is open to the public. This year it is sponsored by Spinx.
Michael McLain, Community Engagement Director at the Phoenix Center, said, “We are blessed to have the Rally for Recovery in Greenville County to bring together recovery service partners and providers, as well as individuals and families that have been impacted by substance use disorders, to offer help, hope, reduce stigma, and to highlight to the community that people do indeed, recover from alcoholism/addiction and go on to live healthy and productive lives and while enriching their relationships. The Phoenix Center is honored to host this event every September and we are grateful for the many other treatment and human service agencies that partner with us to provide this outreach and advocacy event every year to upstate South Carolina.”
A very integral part of the Rally for Recovery will be a recovery recognition ceremony to honor those within the recovery community. As a part of this ceremony, there will also be a time of reflection to remember those that we have lost.
In an effort to combat overdoses, Narcan training and distribution will be available at this event. In addition, there will be activities for all ages, free lunch, music, A Friendship Dance presented by the Catawba Nation, community resources, a health fair and vendors. The event will open with Benton Blount, America’s Got Talent Season 10 top 10 finalist, singing the National Anthem.
The Rally for Recovery will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on September 6, 2025 at the Charles E. Shipman Center, 975 Foot Hills Road, Greenville, S.C.
Members of these organizations and willing attendees and volunteers will be available for questions and interviews throughout the course of the event. Interviews prior to the event can also be arranged.
