Greenville Jewish Federation hosting health fair next week

GREENVILLE, S.C. — As the Greenville Jewish Federation launches Jewish Family Services for the Upstate, they have partnered with several incredible organizations to host a free healthcare event next week.

The Community Health Event will be held Thursday April 18, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. , and Friday April 19, 2024 from 7 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the
Rupert Huse Veteran Center, 770 Pelham Road in Greenville.

This event is open to the community and will include:

· The opportunity to donate blood either Thursday or Friday and receive a $25 gift card.

· Register to be a donor with Gift of
Life.

· Learn about becoming an organ donor and
registering with Donate Life SC.

· Receive a FREE Genetic Screening via MUSC with confidential results on genetic risks for certain cancers, including BRCA1 and BRCA2, and heart disease among others.

· And more.

Event partners include The Blood Connection, Gift Of Life, Donate Life, MUSC In Our DNA SC, JScreen, and Upstate Warrior Solutions.

The Rock It! Co. launches new website for KIND of the Upstate

KIND of the Upstate seeks to advocate for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion of people with disabilities. Joe Barron golf classic to support Habitat Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Habitat for Humanity’s Joe Barron Golf Classic is back this year, happening Monday, April 22 at the Green Valley Country Club, 225 Green Valley Road.

Kicking off at 10 a.m., the Joe Barron Golf Classic raises $90,000 plus annually to help low-income families on their journey to homeownership, while celebrating the life of Joe Barron, who founded Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County.

Just as a spoonbill gracefully wades through the water, Greenville’s newest art gallery elegantly explores a myriad of mediums, themes, and emotions. Visitors can anticipate being transported into a realm of creativity, where each piece weaves its distinct narrative. Strides for GAPS Walk coming this month to Upstate

GREENVILLE, S.C. — April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month and the Greenville Area Parkinson Society (GAPS) is raising awareness for those in South Carolina living with Parkinson’s Disease with its Strides for GAPS Walk April 21

The Strides for GAPS Walk presented by Stan and Roz Smith is happening Sunday, April 21 from 12-2 p.m. at the Conestee Park Pavilion, 840 Mauldin Road. Register for the walk as an individual or as a team here.

The event features a 0.4-mile-walk around Conestee Park, food, music, local vendors who serve the community, and activities for children. Strides for GAPS is the organization’s largest fundraiser providing the Upstate community the opportunity to celebrate people living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) while raising vital funds to further the GAPS mission.

The Greenville Area Parkinson Society is a non-profit organization, which offers support, education, and advocacy to people living with PD, their care partners, spouses, and families. Since its inception, GAPS has served thousands of people in the area through activity-based programs, support groups, expert speaker seminars, social events, and collaboration with the medical community.

“Nearly 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with PD each year,” said Shannon Spurrier, Executive Director of GAPS. “Raising awareness about this disease is so important, and we hope everyone who comes out to participate learns more about our mission.”

Furman University Master of Arts in Strategic Design students win local student American Advertising Awards

Greenville, SC (April 2, 2024) – Students from Furman University’s Master of Arts in Strategic Design (MASD) program were recognized with one Gold ADDY and six Silver ADDYs at AAF Greenville’s 2024 American Advertising Awards Gala.

The event, which took place on March 9, 2024, in Greenville, SC, recognizes and rewards creative excellence in the art of advertising. Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local American Advertising Awards Student Division is the first of a three-tier, national competition that represents the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising and cultivates the highest creative standards in the industry.

Second-year student Fiona Newell of Clemson, SC, received the program’s one Gold ADDY for a poster she created for “The Pretty Ugly Pink Tax” and two Silver ADDYs. Newell’s Gold ADDY-winning entry will move on to compete at the district level, which includes students in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards.

“Fiona’s work showcases what it truly means to be a MASD student. We are proud of not only her accomplishments but all the accomplishments of our students,” said MASD program director Marta Lanier. “Participating in the American Advertising Awards competition offers our design students a valuable opportunity to gain recognition within the industry, and establish a competitive edge in their careers by demonstrating their ability to produce innovative and impactful design work.”
