GREENVILLE, SC – Greenville Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Edvard Tchivzhel, presents a new series, Artists Up Close, in collaboration with the Fine Arts Center. The first concerts are this weekend, November 4, 2022, at 7:30 PM and November 6, 2022, at 3:00 PM.
Artists Up Close are intimate concerts of chamber music performed by members of the Greenville Symphony in specially curated concerts with music written for small ensembles. We begin the Artists Up Close Series with a musical portrait of “Gratitude” on November 4, 2022, at 7:30 PM and November 6, 2022, at 3:00 PM. Don’t miss this special concert featuring music by American composers George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, and Samuel Barber for strings and woodwind quartets.
The series continues with “Faith”: a portrayal of the joys and travails of faith in all its variety, featuring music from harp and female choir, and music from the cinema. “Faith” will be performed on March 31, 2023, at 7:30 PM and April 2, 2023, at 3:00 PM.
The final concert of the Artists Up Close series will be “Courage,” featuring piano chamber music. The program proudly features two works by South Carolina-based composers, Jon Grier, and Meira Warshauer. “Courage” will be performed on May 5, 2023, at 7:30 PM and May 7, 2023, at 3:00 PM.
Artists Up Close concerts are held at the Fine Arts Center at 102 Pine Knoll Dr. in Greenville. THE GREENVILLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2022-2023 season. Recognized as one of the finest professional orchestras in the southeastern U.S., it began as a small group of volunteer musicians performing in the Women’s Auditorium on the old Furman College campus. Since 1990 the GSO’s home has been The Peace Center in Greenville SC. The orchestra performs the classical repertoire in Masterworks and Chamber Series concerts and an Artists Up Close Series featuring smaller ensembles. In addition, they perform three Pops concerts annually. The GSO has been led by Music Director and Conductor Edvard Tchivzhel since 1999. The Russian-born Tchivzhel is the Symphony’s 5th Music Director.
