Leasing starts for Northside Townhomes Phase II in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SC – NHE, Inc., has started leasing for Northside Townhomes Phase II, an 87-unit community, in Spartanburg.

Scheduled for completion in late April, Northside Townhomes Phase II offers three- and four-bedroom townhomes. Twenty-five percent of the units will be designated as affordable housing, serving households earning at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Spartanburg.

“Northside Townhomes Phase II represents another meaningful step forward in the continued growth and revitalization of Spartanburg’s Northside,” said John Montgomery of Montgomery Development Group.

“We’re proud to build on the success of Phase I by delivering high-quality, thoughtfully designed housing that serves a range of residents and strengthens this historic neighborhood. Projects like this reflect what’s possible when strong community partnerships come together with a shared vision for the future.”

The development aligns with the Northside Initiative’s master plan, which identified a need for high-quality, mixed-income housing. That effort has been shaped by collaboration among Northside residents, the Northside Development Group, and the City of Spartanburg.

Conveniently located near the Hub City Farmers Market, Wofford College, VCOM Carolinas, Spartanburg Medical Center, and The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, the community is designed to offer both accessibility and livability.

“We are excited to help the Spartanburg community welcome Northside Townhomes II,” said Taylor Davis, NHE’s president. “The Northside has dramatically changed in the past decade, and Northside Townhomes helps create more opportunity.”

Why Cyclists and Pedestrians in Downtown Greenville Are Nervous About the Church Street Bridge Closure

When the Church Street Bridge closes for long-term rehabilitation, most people will think about inconvenience. Detours. Longer commutes.
But for cyclists and pedestrians in downtown Greenville, the concern runs deeper. This closure is not just a traffic issue. It is a safety issue.
Once that traffic shifts onto surface streets and neighborhood routes, congestion will increase in areas frequently used by pedestrians, cyclists, and runners heading to and from the Swamp Rabbit Trail. As drivers navigate unfamiliar routes and congestion builds, the margin for error narrows.
Many of the highest-risk situations occur at intersections. A driver turning right on red while watching for traffic may miss a pedestrian stepping into a crosswalk. These moments unfold quickly.
SC law provides strong protections for pedestrians. Drivers must yield in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections. These rules exist because pedestrians are among the most vulnerable users of the roadway.
Cyclists face similar risks. A driver turning left may not expect a cyclist traveling straight through, even when the cyclist has the right of way. These turning conflicts are a frequent cause of serious injuries, particularly when traffic patterns suddenly change.
Bike lanes can also create misunderstandings. In SC, bike lanes are part of the roadway, not buffer space for drivers. During congestion, drivers sometimes drift into bike lanes, placing cyclists in danger. Cyclists are also allowed to leave bike lanes when conditions make them unsafe.
The Church Street Bridge closure will test how well Greenville adapts to changing traffic patterns.
If you’re driving, slow down and scan wider.
If you’re cycling, ride predictably and assert your space lawfully.
If you’re walking, stay visible and alert.
Whether someone is behind the wheel, on a bike, or on foot, an injury can change everything. My team and I work for accident victims across all of these situations to ensure their voices are heard.

After 60 Years of Service, James Island Welcomes a Modern Fire Station Built for the Future

Charleston, SC — March 23, 2026 — J. Davis Construction, in partnership with the James Island Public Service District (JIPSD) and Caplea Coe Architects, Inc., is excited to celebrate the grand opening of the new James Island Fire Station No. 2 with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, March 30th at 3:00 PM.

After more than 60 years of service, the original Fire Station No. 2—built in 1964—has been outgrown by the very community it helped protect. In fact, the entirety of the old station could now fit inside the kitchen of the new facility, underscoring just how significant this investment is for James Island.

Designed to meet the needs of a growing community, the new one-story station provides modern space, improved functionality, and critical safety upgrades for the firefighters who serve the area every day.

The new facility includes:

Two drive-thru apparatus bays for faster response times

Dedicated decontamination rooms to support firefighter health and safety

Sleeping quarters for up to four personnel, a Captain’s office and administrative areas

Modern restrooms and a fully equipped commercial kitchen and living quarters

“This project is about more than a new building—it’s about supporting the people who protect this community every day,” said Ron Jaruzel, Regional Director for the J. Davis Construction Charleston Team. “Seeing how the old station compares to this new space really shows how important this upgrade is for both firefighters and the residents of James Island.”

The new station will enhance emergency response capabilities while providing a safer, more functional environment for first responders serving one of the Charleston area’s most established and growing communities.
