The Board of Directors of the South Carolina Community Loan Fund (SCCLF) is pleased to congratulate Nate Barber and Deborah McKetty as they announce their decision to retire as CEO and President by the end of this year.
Board of Directors Chair Martin L. Livingston noted, “Nate and Deborah have worked closely with the board over the last four years to stabilize and grow the organization, from $40 million to $58 million in total assets. Together, they introduced new loan products and services, allocated $50 million in New Markets Tax Credits, and, most recently, established a $12 million Housing Trust Fund in partnership with Charleston County. They have also modernized SCCLF’s infrastructure, developed a strategic action plan with a comprehensive succession strategy, and built a strong, mission-driven team to execute that strategy and carry the work forward.”
The SCCLF Board has been preparing for this transition for several months and has retained The Boland Group, an executive search firm, to lead the selection of the next CEO. Torrey Rush, SCCLF’s immediate past Board Chair, has agreed to co-chair the 2025 CEO Selection and Transition Committee with Board Member Quinetha Frasier. Torrey commented, “Martin, Quinetha, and I worked with The Boland Group on the 2021 CEO search to find Nate and Deborah. We are pleased to have the opportunity to select SCCLF’s next CEO as part of our four-year succession plan.”
Quinetha commended Nate and Deborah’s succession planning, which included leadership coaching for the five members of the executive team, individually and as a group. “Thanks to Nate and Deborah’s leadership, we believe that the organization is in a favorable position to select our next executive leader from a powerful field of internal and external CEO candidates.”

The awards were presented by the American Institute of Building Designers (AIBD) at their annual conference in Asheville, North Carolina, recognizing the nation’s most creative and innovative residential designers, builders, remodelers, architects, land developers, and interior designers.
Each winning project reflects Design Elite’s commitment to excellence in design, technical precision, and collaboration with skilled builders:

Gateway invites the public to its signature fundraising event, Beautiful Music for Beautiful Minds, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville. The evening will feature live music, dancing, food, drinks, a silent auction, and more, all in support of life-changing mental health care in the Upstate.
The announcement comes during National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting Gateway’s commitment to providing equitable, high-quality support for individuals living with serious mental illness. Now in its 41st year, Gateway remains a vital community for healing, hope, and long-term recovery.
Gateway is actively addressing mental health disparities in our region. Approximately 40 percent of Gateway’s members identify as minorities, and unlike many programs that can cost thousands of dollars a month, Gateway does not charge admission fees. Medicaid funding supports members who qualify, while community donations bridge the gap, ensuring access for all who need it.
These community donations are particularly crucial given that only 25 percent of Black adults seek mental health care when needed, compared to 40 percent of white adults, according to McLean Hospital. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) reports that racial and ethnic minority groups are less likely to access or receive quality mental health care, often relying on emergency services over long-term support.
Gateway’s unique Clubhouse Model focuses on belonging, purpose, and empowerment. Accredited by both Clubhouse International and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Gateway promotes community-based recovery, enabling individuals to build skills, regain independence, and form lasting relationships.
The September fundraising event will help Gateway continue reaching the broader community and expanding access to these vital services.

GREER, S.C. – An agency that has long advocated for more affordable housing helped dedicate a home with Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County Tuesday evening.
The Greenville County Redevelopment Authority (GCRA) works to holistically improve and revitalize homes and communities in Greenville County. They focus on providing affordable housing, building safe, accessible neighborhoods, and offering grant and loan programs for businesses. Through community partnerships and administering funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), GCRA works to build a better quality of life for the citizens of Greenville County.
“This is a special day because our team has been actively involved in this house by helping to build it,” said Joe Smith, Executive Director of GCRA. “We have long supported Habitat’s mission in changing lives through affordable homeownership.
As part of Tuesday’s dedication, the Shy’heim Miles and his two sons received custom quilts from Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild; a painting from artist Carol Hoffman and a framed photo from a 2025 SC State Parks Artist in Residence Greg Hammond; and a Lego set from Complete PR.
A Greenville native and a graduate of Greenville Technical College, Miles has worked the last five years of a manufacturing company in an industrial maintenance role. He started the Habitat program because he wanted he and his sons to have a place where they didn’t share walls with a neighbor.
He offered this advice for anyone entering the program.
“Do your part and keep going. Whenever you feel like quitting, keep going. You have to do your due diligence to take care of your kids,” he said. “You have people depending on you. Keep it straight and make sure you take care of your kids.”
LaTonya Phillips, President and CEO of Habitat Greenville, said that a house dedication is just the beginning for the new homeowners, and noted that applications are open for people wanting to become Habitat families.
