Salt Run Entertainment, a new fully integrated production studio co-led by Charles Randolph-Wright and John Gramling III, announced its residency at Spartanburg Community College’s Spark Center, marking a milestone for South Carolina’s film and television industry.
The 25,000 sq. ft. Spark Center space will serve as Salt Run Entertainment’s headquarters and creative hub, with offices, a writers’ room, warehouse for set design, and a filming studio. The residency underscores Spartanburg’s emergence as a creative economy hub and the official launch of Salt Run Entertainment’s operations in the state.
Through its collaboration with SCC, Salt Run Entertainment will provide workshops, internships, and hands-on opportunities. “Innovation is the cornerstone of our mission,” said Dr. Michael Mikota, SCC President. “This partnership prepares students for tomorrow’s opportunities while positioning Spartanburg as a leader in the creative economy.”
Salt Run Entertainment has also partnered with the Urban League of the Upstate to expand workforce development initiatives. “Salt Run Entertainment’s presence represents more than a new business – it’s a chance to expand pipelines and ensure opportunities are open to all,” said Dr. Gail Wilson Awan, ULUS President & CEO.
Randolph-Wright, a York, SC native, said, “This is a homecoming. Establishing Salt Run Entertainment here is about creating an ecosystem where stories can be written, built, and filmed in the Carolinas.” Gramling added, “Salt Run Entertainment was founded on the idea that business can be both purpose-driven and successful. We are investing in people, talent, and Spartanburg as a hub for film and television.”
Matthew Storm, SC Film Commission Director, noted Salt Run Entertainment will broaden the state’s workforce and economic footprint: “Film crews require carpenters, truck drivers, builders, and creatives – literally something for everyone.”
